Ethics and College Student Life: A Case Study Approach
Review by Jon C. Dalton

- August 5, 2002

Kenneth Strike of University of Maryland and Pamela Moss of Cornell University have written a useful and richly documented examination of ethical issues in college life in their recent book, Ethics and College Student Life: A Case Study Approach (published by Prentice Hall, 2002). The authors provide pertinent case studies and discussion of some of the most compelling ethical issues confronting college students including academic cheating, intolerance, privacy, friendships, sex, drinking/drugs/ religion, and career/life commitments.

In addition to their examination of specific ethical issues the authors provide a useful methodology for examining ethical issues including a conceptual framework of ethical principles that has broad application. The book lends itself well to instructional use in classroom or out of class settings with students because of its excellent organization, good choice of ethics topics, case studies and resources. Chapters are loaded with thoughtful discussion questions, case studies, as well as background readings and resource materials. The 2002 book is an updated edition of a 1997 publication by the same title.
