About the Institute

The Institute on College Student Values is an annual conference for student affairs professionals, educators, campus ministers and other individuals interested in character development in college students. First held in 1991, the Institute is concerned with five broad areas of interest:
  • Trends in college students’ values
  • Ethical issues in college life
  • Character building educational models and strategies
  • Moral development research
  • Civic education

The Institute provides an opportunity to learn about the most current issues, research, and educational activities pertaining to character education in college. In addition, the Institute is designed to be a “think tank” for individuals who have particular interests in exploring more effective ways to promote civic education and the ethical development of college students.

This year, Institute speakers are leading presidents of colleges and universities who have made moral character and civic education institutional priorities. Methods by which colleges and universities can actively encourage moral development and the process of moral commitment in college students will be explored. Keynote speakers will be in residence for most of the conference and available to interact informally with participants.

The Institute is expected to attract more than 2000 participants from across the United States. Conference arrangements also include side trips and entertainment. Informal dress is recommended for all conference activities.
